American Federation of Teachers formerly known as Chicago Teachers' Union,which is the nation's second largest teacher unions after the National Education Association.From the beginning of the establishment,it's committed to the interests of teachers members and the promotion of the quality of public education.With a clear trade unionism itself and the influence of the value of the industry,American Federation of Teachers has a natural connection with collective bargaining.Collective bargaining was originally used as a major means of regulating labor relations in the field of industry and commerce,with the prevalence of labor movement,private areas of collective bargaining gradually mature.As a result of collective bargaining in the US private sector to win,the public domain is also beginning to focus on and using collective bargaining to seek benefits.American federation of teachers introduced collective bargaining in the 1940 s,its development has always been inseparable from the big background of the American labor movement.In the 1960 s,public teachers began to organize collective bargaining.Under the leadership of the New York Teachers Association,collective bargaining was recognized by more teachers,followed by the federal states have also been in the form of legislation to recognize the collective way of teachers.American Federation of Teachers constantly adjust strategy,to promote teachers collective bargaining system development,the content,manner,program and scope of the negotiations are also becoming more sophisticated.The wide application of the collective bargaining strategy of teachers gives the teachers the right to speak and manage more in school affairs.By the late 1970 s,collective bargaining had developed into a universal lifestyle in American public education.It is responsible for coordinating labor relations and school affairs,communicating teachers and managers of the task.From trade union orientation to trade union orientation and professional orientation,from the fierce confrontation of teachers and managers to equal dialogue and cooperation,with teachers collective bargaining for breakthrough,nowadays American Federation of Teachers will be more concerned with how to coordinate the balance relationship between the professional development of teachers and the improvement of the quality of public education.To talk about the American Federation of Teachers in the process of historical experience and self-development,not only help to promote the construction of our teachers collective bargaining system and practice development,to make up for the lack of teacher unions in organizing collective bargaining,but also for the future development of Chinese teacher unions to provide a reference for healthy development.
