In recent years,the number of returned overseas has increased significantly.One-third of returnees choose to work in colleges?research institutions or national institutions.The returned teachers of universities have become the backbone of constructing world-class universities in China.It has theoretical and practical significance to understand academic adaption of returned teachers and to analyze how to improve their academic adaptability.This study focuses on the academic adaption of returned teachers on the basis of the theory of reverse culture adaptation.Academic adaption is divided into adapting to curriculum teaching,adapting to scientific research,adapting to social service,adapting to cultural inheritance and innovation,adapting to academic system,adapting to academic communication.The overall and specific academic adaption in the above six aspects of returned teachers are analyzed through questionnaire and interview.This paper also explores causes of academic discomfort from the perspectives of system formulated by government and university?culture and environment of colleges?individual in order to providing suggestions on how to further improve academic adaptability of returned teachers.Based on the studying mentioned,there are some conclusions as followed:(1)Most returned teachers have favourable academic adaptability,while some of them have academic adaption problems.(2)Academic system is the most unsuited to returned teachers,followed by scientific research,academic communication,curriculum teaching,social services,cultural inheritance and innovation.(3)The degree?years of studying abroad?experience of teaching abroad and degree of contacting with foreign countries all have a significant impact on the overall academic adaption of returned teachers.(4)Specifically,in terms of academic system,returned teachers are least suited to academic evaluation and academic promotion system.In terms of scientific research,it is the most unsuitable to scientific research management system and scientific research atmosphere.In the aspect of academic communication,it is the most uncomfortable for returned teachers to communicate with administrative staff and colleagues.In teaching,it is the most unsuitable to teaching management system and teaching ideas.In the aspect of social service,idea and atmosphere of social service are the most inadapted.In the aspect of cultural inheritance and innovation,returned teachers are not only disgusted with utilitarian cultural atmosphere,but also realize that it lacks awareness of cultural inheritance and innovation.(5)The immature system made by university is the root cause;distorted academic culture and environment is important reason;passive and negative attitude of individual is subjective reason.(6)In order to improve the academic adaptability of returned teachers,the relevant policies should be implemented practically;colleges and universities should establish modernized system to provide relaxed and liberal academic environment for returnees;individual should face a variety of academic adaptation difficulties with positive and optimistic mentality.
