Coaching ability is the coaches' basic capabilities in both training and competition activities.It is the comprehensive embodiment of professional quality and accomplishment.The level of coaching ability is an important factor to improve athletic training performance and achieve athletes to reach the best results in competition.In the past thirty years since 1987,the practicing in building high-level sports teams in colleges and universities in China has shown that the quality of coaches is one of the key limiting factors for the advancement of high-level sports teams.In order to further enrich our talent development system for competitive sports,improve coaching abilities of the college and university coaches,and scientifically speed up the progress in training and competition for the high-level sports teams in colleges and universities,this paper uses the coaches of high-level table tennis team and their teaching ability of Chinese colleges and universities as the research object.This paper uses the high-level sports team table tennis coaches and their teaching ability of Chinese colleges and universities as the research object.it analyze the teaching ability structure of table tennis coaches in universities by means of literature,expert interview,questionnaire survey and mathematical statistics Elements and study coaches' structural relationships of all capabilities.At the same time,these factors are used as evaluation indexes to evaluate the coaches' self-evaluation and athletes,and examine the coaching ability of the coaches.The main conclusions are as follows:1.Colleges and universities high-level table tennis coaches coaching ability consists of fifty elements,including six secondary elements with forty-four corresponding third level elements.The secondary elements include basic attainment of specific training,training ability in classes,command ability in competition,team management ability,scientific research ability,interpersonal communication ability.2.Through the investigation of experts,the importance of the six secondary elements,in the order from high to low are: command ability in competition,training ability in classes,basic attainment of specific training,team management ability,interpersonal communication ability,scientific research ability.3.For colleges and universities high-level table tennis coaches,the elements of teaching ability are interdependent and closely related.The command ability in competition is the most important factor that affects the athlete's performance in competition.The competition achievement is the most direct manifestation of the teaching and training ability.The basic attainment of specific training is the foundation.The scientific research ability is the basis of the training and command ability in competition.The interpersonal communication ability is the assurance of the smooth operation as a team.4.Currently the educational level is overall high in coaches of high-level table tennis teams in Chinese colleges and universities.They have certain professional background.94% of the coaches reached two or more sports level.Coaches age distribution is moderate,more in line with the needs of table tennis long-term development.But 25% of the coaches did not attend any job training for table tennis.5.In the self-evaluation of secondary elements for 36 coaches of high-level table tennis teams in Chinese colleges and universities,we found that the basic attainment of specific training received highest score,while athletes also agree on it.But the scientific research capacity is relatively lacking.In the context of all the third level elements,the coaches' abilities in establishment of a good team spirit and to communication with athletes give the highest score.What get the lower scores are professional titles,collection and reading ability of data in foreign languages and ability of using internet technologies.6.Evaluation of the secondary elements of the coaches by athletes,the command ability in competition receives the highest score,while the scientific research ability is the lowest.In all third level elements,establishment of a good team spirit scores the highest,and the lowest score is the graphical presentation ability with computers and data processing capabilities.Meanwhile it is needed to strength the interaction with media by coaches and the ability to balance the athletes' professional education and competition training.
