Competitive sports is one of the important sign of weighing a national sportsdeveloped degree. At the same time, it is also a important window to show science andtechnology, economy, culture of a nation. In many factors which affect thedevelopment of competitive sports, coaching ability level is an important link ofinfluence and restrict the development of competitive sports. Improving the teachingability has become one of the main ways of sports scientific training level of allcountries in the world. This article takes Track and field coaches and the elements andstructure of coaching ability in Jiangsu Province as the object of study, uses literatureand material, questionnaire survey, mathematical statistics, logic analysis and otherresearch methods to study the basic theory of teaching ability structure, Track and fieldcoaches structure system in Jiangsu Province and so on. The main conclusions are asfollows:1. Coaches are engaged in training athletic, cultivating athletes, guiding them toparticipate in the sports competition and encouraging them to strive for the excellentresult. They are professionals. Coaches basically has the following responsibilities: first,learn and master professional knowledge, methods and skills about athletes’ selection,training and competition; Second, complete the mission of athletes’ selection, training,and competition; Third, train athletes to become social specialized personnels and makethem adapt to the needs of the development of society and culture through sports. Thedefinition of coaching ability is the coaches’ ability of guiding and controlling trainingand competition in competitive sports activities.2Coaches’ teaching ability structure of index system included two levels, a total oftwenty-nine indicators. Professional basic ability, training ability and competition abilityare three first-level indicators, and twenty-six secondary indicators. The reasonablearrangement of primary and secondary training ability and primary and secondarymatches regulation ability are important index of coaching ability to distinguish between track and field coaches and other project of coaches.3In coaches coaching ability structure, the strength of the primary index order isthat training guidance ability, competition ability, basic professional ability. Twenty-ninehigh level track and field coaches in Jiangsu have strong coaching ability now. Thetraining guidance ability is the strongest, get47.128points; Next is the competitionguidance ability, get44.880points; Professional foundation ability is relativeunsatisfactory, get39.184points.4The weakest in coaches coaching ability structure in the secondary index isinterpersonal communication and coordination ability, ability of designing andapplying track and field venue equipment, computers’ ability of auxiliary training andability of organizing competitions and applying judgment.5In twenty-nine coaches, two of them are national coaches, thirteen of them aresenior coaches, another thirteen people are intermediate coaches and one is primarycoach. What’s more, three coaches have trained their athletes to get medals ininternational competition; Twenty-three coaches have trained their athletes to win thenational top three; Three coaches have trained their athletes to win the top three inprovincial and municipal sports tournament and this is the best result they have got.From the practical point of view, it is necessary to improve the training of computer,venue facilities, sports competition, the referee method of track and field coaches inJiangsu province, so that they could grasp the need for future development of track andfield training as soon as possible. On the other hand, it also increases the chance ofcommunication between track and field coaches in Jiangsu province and foreigncoaches.
