During American rule,in Philippine the U.S.colonial government actively carried out sports programs which were easily acceptable for Filipinos to change the backward Philippine and improve Filipinos' physical fitness.At first the U.S.colonial government offered sports curriculum in public elementary schools and public high schools,and then extended them to private schools.After receiving positive response in basic education,the U.S.colonial government developed physical education in higher education,including establishing physical culture institutes and offering military training courses.The implementation of physical education policy and the promotion of sports programs by the U.S.colonial government not only improved Filipinos' physical fitness,but also boosted their confidence.Moreover,the U.S.colonial government imperceptibly spread American values through promoting sports programs,thereby facilitating Americanization of the Philippines' society and Filipinos' minds.
