A Study On The Present Situation And Cultivation Strategies Of Senior High School Students' ICC

Senior high school is an important stage of training students' ICC.Intercultural communication is one of the important research topics in foreign language teaching of senior high school.The cultivation of students' ICC is also clearly defined in the English curriculum standards for senior high school.So,the author makes an investigation among senior high school students to understand the current situation of students' ICC.There are three research questions which include: First,what is the present situation of ICC among senior high school students? Second,is there difference in ICC of senior high school students with different backgrounds? Third,what are the main difficulties in the process of improving ICC of senior high school students?In order to answer the research questions,the author makes the investigation based on questionnaire and interview.One questionnaire designed by Zhong Hua,Bai Qianhui&FanWeiwei(2013)is ICCSRS,the other questionnaire designed by Li Hailing and Wang Ying(2016)is culture learning situation questionnaire.The research subjects are part of Xuzhou Senior High School students and English teachers.The total number of 158 subjects includes 5 teachers and 153 students.In the process of research,the author uses the SPSS19.0 to make the descriptive analysis of the overall ICC and the ICC of each dimension among students.Then,the author analyzes the ICC of students with different backgrounds by independent sample T-test.At the same time,the author collects the results of the second questionnaire with Excel 2007 and analyzes the difficulties in improving students' ICC.The results show: first,the overall ICC of senior high school students is low.Second,the ICC of students with diverse backgrounds is different.shown as follows: Girls' ICC is better than boys',the ICC of liberal arts students(LAS)is better than that of science students(SS),the differences of ICC in key classes and parallel classes are obvious in language and knowledge dimension and the ICC of students with intercultural experience is significantly better than that of students without this experience.At the same time,the results of the second questionnaire and interviews reflect the difficulties in improving students' ICC in following six aspects: the essential differences between English and Chinese,teachers,students,English teaching materials,teaching environment and the evaluation methods.Finally,the author analyzes the results of the study and puts forward some feasible training strategies in the aspects of teaching materials,teaching methods,teaching forms,curriculum setting,evaluation methods and construction of teaching staff.The author hopes that it contributes to English teaching in intercultural communication.
