Junior high school students are in the period of youth development,which is the key period of the formation of self-identity.However,they are facing the double challenges of the entrance examination and personality shaping.Junior high school students'academic performance is affected by many factors,including self-concept and academic engagement.Previous studies have mostly focused on the impact of self-concept on academic performance and the prediction of academic engagement on academic achievement,and neglected the relationship between self-concept and academic engagement.From the perspectives of pedagogy and psychology,this study,based on the theories of self-concept and learning engagement,aims to investigate the possible interaction between self-concept and learning engagement,and their interative effects on students'achievement as well.In this study,junior middle school students' self concept questionnare,Chinese version of academic engagement scale and students' final achievements were used as research tools.Students of junior high school from Grade One and Grade Two were selected as subjects.This paper investigates the relationship between self-concept and academic engagement,and their interative effects on students' achievement as well.Through data analysis,the main research reseults are as follows:1.The correlationship between self-concept and academic engagementof students of Junior high school is positive and interactive.2.Self concept and learning engagement can affect students' academic performance,and have an interactive effect on academic performanceThis study is of great theoretical and practical significance to promote junior high school students' academic achievement and improve their self-concept.
