Reading plays a vital role in the development of senior high school students' English competence.The teaching of reading is always an important and difficult part in senior high school.Senior high school students also attach great significance to enhancing their reading abilities.According to the New English Curriculum for Senior High School(2003),reading skills are the skills of comprehension,and the teaching of reading skills should focus on the development of students' reading strategies.From the year of 2017,the College Entrance Examination of Sichuan adopted a national standardized test paper.Reading comprehension and related questions cover nearly 60% of the total score.With more diversified genres,more creative and complex reading materials,reading comprehension is becoming increasingly demanding for the students.The students not only need to find out the information,but also should have a deeper understanding of the whole discourse and abilities to apply some appropriate reading strategies to complete the reading task.With the help of the questionnaires,reading tests,class observation and interview,the author conducts a survey of the students' application of reading strategies in their daily studying process.The study chooses 100 students form Senior One of Xiangcheng High School in Xindu District to carry out an empirical study.After six months' training of reading strategies based on discourse analysis,the students' reading efficiency has been promoted and their reading ability has been improved.This thesis consists of five parts.The first part is introduction,which simply describes the current situation of reading teaching and learning in Senior One of high school,and presents the purpose,significance and methods of the research.The second part is literature review,which introduces the relevant researches both home and abroad,laying the theoretical foundation of the research.The third part is an experiment of practical reading strategies training based on discourse analysis,including the teaching procedures.The fourth part is the analysis of the statistics from the pre-test and post-test;the discussion of questionnaires,classroom observation and interview.The last part states the main findings and limitations of the research.
