Reading is an important way for people to acquire information. In the globalized world today,it is of vital importance to possess the ability to read in English. At the same time, reading becomes an important part in middle school English teaching. However, the teaching situation of English reading is far from satisfactory. Many students find reading class boring so that they learn passively and ineffectively, and the communications between teachers and students are apparently less.In order to change the current situation,a new method must be tried and put into use. This topic aims at applying the flipped class model into English reading teaching in middle school so as to examine the effect of this model in improving students' reading performance, learning interest and learning habits.Originating from America early in this century, the flipped classroom is a new teaching mode that converts the traditional way of teaching, which imparts knowledge through videos before class and moves problem-solving,discussions,other group activities into the classroom. The advantages of this model are as follows: firstly, students can gain more flexibility in scheduling their study time;secondly, they can watch the teaching videos for more than once and stop to think over;thirdly, there will be more interactions and communications in the class;fourthly, teachers can solve the problems promptly and give individual instructions during the class time. The flipped class model has been well received and become popular during the teaching experimental researches abroad and at home.On the one hand,it provides new ideas in converting the traditional way of teaching;on the other hand,it plays a positive role in promoting students' learning interest and learning confidence. The author chose two classes,Class One and Class Two in Grade Seven in Zhengzhou Huiji No.6 Middle School,as research subjects during the internship and did a four-month experiment about the flipped class model. The research mainly focused on two questions: What effect does the flipped class model have in middle school English reading teaching and learning? And what do students think of the flipped reading class? During the research process, the flipped class model was adopted in the experimental class while the traditional way of teaching was still applied in the controlled class. From the result of the tests, questionnaires and interview, the author finds that the flipped class model can help to improve students' academic performance, learning interest and learning habits;besides,it can make the students learn more actively and effectively;what's more, most students give positive evaluations to the flipped reading class. In conclusion, this research shows that to apply the flipped class model in the middle school English reading teaching is feasible and has practical significance.
