The Role Of Pregnant Women In Pregnancy Examination Through Weak Ties

The Chinese medical seeking is highly consistent with the traditional behavior of Chinese social networking,which can be briefly interpreted as follow: Chinese people often want to address their issues based upon mutual relationships.Taking hospitalization as example,people tend to hold the thought that quality of treatments is correlated with whether if the patient or his/her relative is an acquaintance of his/her doctor,therefore trying to establish an intimate relationship with doctors is equivalent to getting a better medical treatment.Western medicine is coupled with the western culture and technology development,which is also the foundation of western medicine practice in China.In the western culture,doctor should be a medical researcher and at the same time a technical elite,such ideology formulated the typical characteristics of a western doctor,which are the features and functions of the doctor's role defined by Parsons.It is quite obvious that the western-style medical treatment strongly conflicts with the Chinese people's traditional culture,such confliction is particularly highlighted in the phenomenon of pregnancy examination through weak ties.Taking pregnant women as research subject,this paper study on the role expectation,role playing and role conflicts of the test subjects in their relational hospitalization,the dislocation and contradiction between Western and Chinese medical-seeking pattern is analyzed,respectively.The pregnant women plays as the role of patient when they are communicating with their doctor,however they are not really sick in most common cases.In other words,that fact that they are experiencing physical and psychological changes during the process of conceiving offspring makes them cannot be uniformly regarded as real patients.Focusing on the special group of pregnant women,and analyze the role-playing of patient during pregnancy examination through weak ties.The main purpose of this paper to explore the difference between the pregnant woman acting as a patient and theoretical role of patient,from which valuable conclusions are drown.
