Objective:By measuring the energy consumption level of walking from college students aged from 19 to 25,we analyze the characteristics of relationship between walking speed,walking frequency and walking energy consumption,as well as discuss the influence and the degree of influence on walking energy consumption affected by the biological factors such as gender,height and weight.At the same time,we analyze and discuss the adaptability of the parameter value of walking energy consumption among Chinese college students which has been established by foreign scholars,so as to provide the theoretical basis for establishing various methods to estimate the walking energy consumption and put forward some healthy suggestions on the daily physical activity to College students at school.Methods:A total of 40 students aged from 19 to 25 who are not major in PE were recruited from Zhejiang University randomly,twenty females and twenty males respectively.They accepted the measurement of morphological indexes such as height,weight and leg length.They were measured again by K4b2 telemetry cardiopulmonary exercise test instrument(Italy)to complete indoor treadmill.Firstly,they were collected the quiet data for 5 mins,and then completed the total energy consumption of multistage velocity respectively for 6 mins and that were completed orderly by 4.8km/h,5.6km/h,6.4km/h.During last 2 mins,the steady state V02 of each level was recorded.The METs value of walking is calculated by dividing the V02 by 3.5ml/kg/min at each level of walking speed.And the walking frequency was recorded by two field testers in the last 2 mins during the pre-class speed's tests,and then we got the average number.Fixed speed,stride frequency change used the metronome to control subjects' walking frequency,in order to reach the predetermined numbers.The results were statistically analyzed.Results:1.The article discusses the influence of gender,height,weight and leg length on walking energy consumption.The result shows that weight is the major factor affecting the walking energy consumption.On absolute energy consumption,there are significant differences in gender,height and leg length.2.The walking frequency is of vital importance as a variable in reflecting the load characteristics of walking.At the same speed,there are different walking frequency and strides in different individuals.For an individual,the faster the walking frequency is,the higher energy consumption will be.With the walking speed increasing,walking frequency will be faster,and energy consumption will increase correspondingly.According to the investigation,we found that walking frequency,a vital factor to forecast the walking energy consumption,is far worse than speed in effect.From the experiment of calculating the walking energy consumption,as a reference value,walking frequency is of more extensive acceptance of the pedestrian population.This research has measured the most comfortable walking speed,walking frequency and walking energy consumption characteristics of College students chose voluntarily.It is showed that the most comfortable walking speed is at 5km/h to 6km/h,under which the energy consumption of female and male are about 14ml·kg to 1 min.When fixed speed is changed,no matter you increase or decrease(±10steps)to change the comfortable walking frequency,the energy consumption will increase in the result.For people who depend on walking sports to lose weight,we suggest changing walking frequency.In a sense,it benefits a lot to guide weight loss by walking with small stride and high frequency.3.This study compare the measured values of energy consumption with the recommended values of physical activity of the United States at the walking speed.The oxygen consumption was divided by resting metabolic rate,the METs value of each exercise's intensity was obtained.Under the same intensity,Chinese people's energy consumption has no significant difference from the reference values of American.There are three MET values between 3.5 and 5.0,which all belong to the medium intensity of energy consumption.On the basis of analyzing energy consumption data,we put forward some guiding suggestions for college students who wants to exercise by walking:the number of daily steps should be no less than 8700 for males,and no less than 9600 steps for females.Conclusion:In biological factors affected the walking energy consumption,Speed is the most vital factor,followed by gender.Leg length and height affect relatively weak,and on absolute energy,there is a significant difference between them.Walking frequency is related closely to energy consumption,as a variable,it plays a vital role in expressing the load characteristics of walking.While as a vital factor forecasting the walking energy consumption,walking frequency is far worse than speed.People are used to choosing the most comfortable walking frequency to exercise,and the most comfortable walking frequency consumes the least energy.When walking frequency are changed by changing walking habit,the energy consumption may increase as a result.This article suggests that males of College students walk no less than 8700 steps every day,and females walk no less than 9600 steps,with 5.6km/h comfortable walking speed for 30min or longer time.
