Key competencies are the core concept of the new curriculum reform,which play an important role in the basic education.There is an urgent need to establish the key competencies curriculum system in our country by combining the key competencies with the specific subject.During the current English teaching process,we should focus on the English subject key competencies,which are composed of language competence,cultural awareness,thinking quality and learning ability.Based on the new curriculum idea and the English subject key competencies,this thesis investigates the training status of the English subject key competencies of high school students in Hanzhong.There are three questions to be answered:(1)What is the current situation of cultivation of English subject key competencies in Hanzhong?(2)What are the factors that influence the development of English subject key competencies?(3)Which measures can effectively promote the cultivation of the English subject key competencies?The main research methods utilized in this study are literature research method,questionnaire survey,interview method and statistical analysis method.Firstly,based on the previous studies,this thesis summarizes the competency,key competency,subject key competency and English subject key competency.Next,the study also illustrates the specific contents of English subject key competencies(language competence,cultural awareness,thinking quality and learning ability).Through collecting and analyzing the survey data,the results indicate that the development of the four English subject key competencies are unbalanced.The development of students’ language competence and cultural awareness are better than thinking quality and learning ability.At the same time,the research also identifies the factors influencing student acquisition and development of the key competencies,which include four aspects: teachers,students,curriculum design and teaching evaluation.Finally,in view of the factors and findings,the author puts forward some suggestions.
