In Karl Marx and Frederick Engels, the population is a complex society, which is "the basis and sum of all social productive work".In this book,Marx and Engels use the relationship between economic foundation and superstructure to illustrate the importance of population as the basis of economic development. It is the premise of all social forms, which affects the political, economic, cultural, social, ecological development constantly.Due to the reason that China has the largest population in the world,it's very important to discuss and study the current situation and development of China's population. The result will not only have an important impact on China's sustainable development, but also plays an important role in the world development. There are much population thoughts passed down from ancient times because our scholars have carried out a systematic or thematic discussion on the situation and development of China's population.Population thought is a kind of social consciousness, which was produced and served for certain economic basis. As the relationship between population and economy is the core of population problems, the idea of population economy is bound to manifest itself as the main body of population thought. In class society, the democrats of the ruling class were always the dominant ideology of that era. Therefore,we are supposed to use the basic foundation of historical materialism to reveal class basis and socio-economic background of the historical population thought's formation, and comment on its status in the development of population thought and its social and economic process and population process. We should deny the negative and wrong elements, affirm the positive and correct factors, and make practical and realistic scientific evaluation.China's population thought has a very important position in the history of world population ideology, especially the ancient population thought, which is supposed be a glorious chapter in the history of world's population ideology.Based on the different social forms of China, the history of China can be divided into primitive society, slavery society, feudal society, capitalist society and socialist society. Each period comes with its own population thought, corresponding to the characteristics of its times.Through searching for the extra information, the author found that China had an early, naive and relatively simple population thought as early as the period of slavery society. However, because of the long time span, the lower credibility and a great extent loss of these population thoughts,it is of little significance in the study of the population thought history. The Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period were in the period of social transition, stimulating a large number of ideas and showing " a hundred schools of thought and a hundred flowers bloom" spectacular scene. Therefore, the population thought of this period is relatively comprehensive and a relatively systematic and there is a large number of records in historical literature or historical books, with relatively high reliability and profound impact of later generations. Therefore,it will have great influence on our society by analyzing of the theory of China's population enlightenment period and discussing its significance to the present society is particularlyimportant. In the paper, the author sorted out the population thought of the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period, and divided it into seven schools of thought based on the difference in population thought. The first type of thought is to increase the number of population, which can be divided into three categories:increase the birth population, reduce the death toll and attract immigration. The second type of thought is to keep the fit of number of people. The third is to reduce number of people, because the population was limited by the economic development,as well as national governance policies advocated by small country people. The fourth type of thought is the concept of marriage distribution, which was advocated for early marriage and early breeding, and there was "matchmaker" helping people to find partners. The fifth kind of thought is the division of the population structure.Because of the difference in standards, there were divisions between the petty man and the gentleman, men and women and emerged the Four People's Thoughts. The sixth type of thought is to strengthen the management and monitoring of the floating population. The last one is about educating people, and the government was trying to stupefy the people at that time.By using the methods of literature analysis and comparative analysis, the author explores the causes and meanings of each thought and finds that some population thoughts in the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period have some enlightenment and reference for the current population issue. For instance:1.Grasping the red line of the moderate population and extending the demographic dividend;2.Improving the service of the civil affairs department and solving the problem of matchmaking of unmarried youth above the normal age for marriage;3.Breaking the stratification of population and speeding up the movement of population;4.Standardizing the registration of floating population and unified management system;5.Improving the education system and the science and culture quality of population. In the end,the author hopes that the study of population thoughts of the Spring and Autumn and Warring States Period can be used to make up for a short board in the study history of the population thought.Through giving out the article, the author hopes to give a little influence to the future research, and helpingtobe policies which is beneficial to China's population development from the perspective of population ideology.
