Efficiency relies on the method used.It is also the same for English teaching.There are many researches on the methods of foreign language teaching at home and abroad.However,there are rare researches on the status quo of the application of English teaching methods in junior middle schools in China.This research focuses on researching the status quo of English teaching methods through the investigation method with the aim of grasping the application as well as the existing problems of English teaching methods in junior middle schools.This research selects 12 teachers and 360 students from three ordinary junior middle schools and three key junior middle schools in Luoyang City as samples and conducts the questionnaire survey on them through the self-made questionnaires.In addition,12 teachers are interviewed in depth.This thesis mainly researches teachers' understanding and application of English teaching methods in junior middle schools.In this research,Test and the Fisher's Exact Test of SPSS(Version 20.0)are applied to analyze the obtained data.According to the analysis of the obtained data from the questionnaires and interviews,the major findings are as follows.Firstly,84% of the surveyed junior high school English teachers have realized the importance of applying teaching methods in English teaching.However,there are still 58% of the surveyed junior middle school English teachers,who believe that application of English teaching methods should not be included in the evaluation system of English teachers' classroom teaching.Secondly,67% of the surveyed teachers do not know much about the common English teaching methods.It is mainly reflected in the fact that more than 58% of English teachers in junior high schools cannot completely match the names of the commonly used English teaching methods with their main features.Finally,according to the feedback from the junior middle school English teachers and students on the application of the teaching methods,51% of the teachers still use the traditional Grammar-Translation Method in English teaching.Meanwhile,teachers and students have different descriptions of the teaching methods used by teachers in the classroom.Namely,75% of teachers think that they are adopting the Communicative Teaching Method and the Task-Based Language Teaching in the classroom.However,86% of the students do not think so.Except that,51% of the students think that their teachers are adopting the Grammar-Translation Method.
