English class teaching methods have a long development and keep changing in the history of the English language teaching. Many famous teaching methods have great influence on English language teaching in China, such as Translation Method, Direct Method, Audiolingual Method, Situational Method, Cognitive Approach, Communicative Approach and Task-based Language Teaching Approach. Many factors have an influence on the usage of teaching methods.In the procedure of English study, English teaching in junior high school has a crucial state as a bond between primary school and senior high school. So how about the use of English class teaching methods at middle school at present? Can English teachers in middle school use teaching methods properly? Which factors are influencing the use of English class teaching methods at middle school?Based on the above background and questions, the author has done a research for English class teaching in three junior high schools which have different teaching equipment in Zouping county for several months. The three schools are Liangzhou Middle School whose teaching equipment is pretty good, Xinshiji Middle School whose teaching equipment is good and Jiaoqiao Middle School whose teaching equipment is the worst. The research methods are questionnaires, interviews and classroom observation. At the same time, this research is also concerned with the related theory on this issue.This research is aimed at exploring the questions in three aspects. Firstly, the situation about the usage of English class teaching methods at middle school at present. Secondly, the middle school English teachers’ view and mastery of knowledge on English teaching methods. Thirdly,the influential factors on the use of English class teaching methods at middle school.By the analysis of the research data, there are several discoveries. Firstly, English teachers pay little attention to the teaching methods in class at junior high school and the related knowledge is poor. Secondly, there are several problems about the use of English teaching methods at junior high school. For example, the variety of teaching methods which are used are limited. Translation Method is often used. At the same time, Situational Method and Task-based Language Teaching Approach are used more often than others except Translation Method.Meanwhile, the teaching methods which are used vary among the three schools because of different teaching equipment. Thirdly, English teaching methods at junior high school are influenced by subjective and objective factors. Subjective factors consist of English teachers’ focus on the methods and mastery of the knowledge about English teaching methods. The objective factors consist of different teaching equipment, the teaching aims and the different English levels of the students.This paper focusing on the study of the teaching methods in junior English classes have big theoretical and practical meanings. It has an important impact on the study of the teaching methods in junior English classes. In junior English classes, some teachers still use traditional English teaching methods, which can cause bad teaching effects. The development of junior English teaching needs the improvement of English teaching methods. This paper does the survey on English teaching methods in junior English classes, making a combination between theory and practice. The data of this study whose objects are three schools which have different teaching equipment plays an important role in the reference of English class teaching methods and future Engligh teaching study.
