Hutchins is a famous American education reformer and the main representative of the eternal educational philosophy of the 20 th century.He became the president of the University of Chicago at the age of 30.In the United States in the 20 th century,Hutchins investigated and criticized the education and society at that time,and on this basis,he created and practiced his own unique general education thought.In particular,he implemented the Chicago Plan at the University of Chicago and strongly advocated it.The "Western Masterpiece Reading Program" has a far-reaching impact on American higher education,and its influence even exceeds that of the United States.Based on the study of Hutchins’ general education thought and educational practice,this article based on the analysis of the problems of university courses in our country,and used the courage of the beginners to draw some inspiring ideas in order to reform the higher education in China.Produce a certain reference.This essay uses Hutchins’ work and his educational practice at the University of Chicago and St.John’s College as an example to discuss Hutchins’ general education thought.The full thesis is divided into four chapters.The first chapter is the introduction.This chapter mainly discusses from six parts,mainly introduces the reasons,research significance,research methods,and the innovation and insufficiency of the research.This paper carefully combs the current research situation of this topic at home and abroad in recent years,and defines the related concepts involved in the research.The second chapter introduces the background and theoretical basis of Hutchins’ general education thought.This chapter mainly introduces two parts.The first is the background of the construction of Hutchins’ general education thought,including social background and personal background.The special growth experience is the soil for Hutchins’ general education thought breeding;the second is the theoretical basis of Hutchins’ general education thought.Hutchins’ general education thought is rooted in its unique metaphysical view,knowledge view,and human nature view.Hutchins’ general education thought not only integrates the essence of his research for many years,but also penetrates into his educational practice.Therefore,the third chapter of this thesis conducts the Hutchins general education thought from three aspects of theory,practice and evaluation.In the theoretical part,this article mainly discusses the purpose of general education,curriculum,implementation methods,and the value of general education.Hutchins’ general education philosophy practice reflects his curriculum reforms at the University of Chicago and the reform of the St.John’s College “Masterpiece Course”.At the end of the chapter,this article evaluates Hutchins’ general education thought from both positive and negative aspects.The fourth chapter is Hutchins’ general education thought and its enlightenment to our country’s university education.This chapter mainly starts with our country’s reality.Through the analysis of the problems existing in our country’s current university under the perspective of general education,and the causes of the problems,we propose Hutchins the enlightenment of general education thoughts on university education in China.The last part is the concluding part of this article,which summarizes and summarizes the full thesis.
