As social citizens, life insurance enterprises should be responsible for their important stakeholders while pursuing economic benefits and safeguarding the interests of shareholders, which are widespread through both the academia and corporate world. However, a consensus on how to measure the social responsibility performance of life insurance enterprises has not been reached by the academia yet. And the current evaluation system of general enterprises'social responsibility performance in China also cannot be applied to special finance organizations like life insurance enterprises, because of its industry limitations. Therefore, the establishment and application of performance evaluation system of life insurance enterprises'social responsibility will be the focus of this study. This study aims to design a practical social responsibility performance evaluation system based on the life insurance enterprises'characters, which would not only set up a benchmark for enterprises'self assessment, but also provide their important stakeholders like consumers, shareholders and the government as a decision-making basis and comparison standard, forming an effective and objective supervision mechanism.Firstly, this thesis explains the connotation and extension of general corporate social responsibility, and then defines the generalized connotation of insurance enterprises'corporate social responsibility by considering the peculiarities of insurance industry and improving the present findings. Afterwards, it briefly clarifies the application of the stakeholder theory to the research of corporate social responsibility. Besides, a review and summary is made on the current situations, especially deficiencies, of life insurance enterprises while undertaking social responsibilities. Secondly, five important stakeholders of life insurance enterprises and their respective key performance evaluation indicators are determined based on the framework of stakeholders. Then, this study uses AHP to identify the weights, thus accomplishing the establishment of performance evaluation system for Chinese life insurance enterprises. Finally, this evaluation system is put into practice through a case study. And by the comparison of evaluation results, this study explores the existing problems of the case enterprise and puts forward recommendations accordingly.
