With the continuous improvement and fast growth of Chinese economy since the adaptation of the policy of reform and opening up, the retail industry in China has enjoyed a booming growth as well. The number of shopping centers, department stores, and supermarkets has been on a surge, and the competition within the sector becomes increasingly fierce. With the war for talents gets intensive comes the enormous attrition of outstanding professionals in retails enterprises, particularly key staffs who possess not only exceptional business ability and qualification, but also have been groomed with rich experience through working in mega retail groups. For retail enterprises, from location selection of a new store, preparation and promotion, to marketing plans and operation management, key staff with solid industrial experience, professional skills, and interpersonal connections play an important role throughout the process. It takes a long time to cultivate them, and thus has become a relatively scarce resource. To some extent, losing key staffs may hinder the sustainable growth of a retail enterprise. Therefore, only by solving the problem of attrition in a retail enterprise can it be able to remain sustained competitiveness and vitality.Aiming at problem discovery, analysis and solving, and through case studies, this thesis conducts an analysis and research on an attrition case of key staff in DS group. Through a real-life and typical key staff attrition case in DS group, it probes on the primary reasons for attrition and conducts profound analysis, using managerial theories studied and individual factors from both the enterprise itself and the staff. Addressing specific reasons, the paper puts forward rectifying measures and advices on establishing complete compensation systems, reasonable career path planning, and building a people-oriented corporate culture. Hopefully, these measures would serve to improve DS group's HR management capability, enhance corporate culture construction, reduce attrition, and give rise to corporate competitiveness. The attrition issue of key staffs in DS group depicted in this thesis is very common in retail enterprises today. It is my hope that the practical measures and solutions proffered in this paper would shed light on my peers and relevant enterprises in HR management, and make reference for retails enterprises in solving the attrition issue for key staffs.
