In recent years, with rapid and sustainable development of China economy, the shipbuilding industry has also continually developed and enhanced. The proportion of order book of China shipbuilding industry taking up the shipbuilding industry in the world is getting bigger and bigger, and there have been more and more varieties of ship types emerging. However, Since 2009, in China and even in the whole shipping industry, there have appeared a few cases of shafting system high temperature failures, both the shipbuilding enterprises and the shipping companies have suffered significant economical loss.Thereafter, the shipping companies pay great attention to the shipbuilding quality, especially, the quality of shafting system construction. Many ship owners regard the shafting system construction quality as criterion of the whole ship quality. Furthermore, according to the number of cases of shafting system high temperature failures, it is a benchmark to decide whether the shipbuilding enterprises could be selected and contracted for building the ship(s). Obviously, the quality of the ship, in particular, the shafting system construction quality, is the key for the enterprises to exist and develop.The shafting system construction quality management, as a result of the shafting system high temperature failures, has drawn wide attention of the whole shipbuilding and shipping industry. This paper, through the shafting system construction quality management of the VLOC (Very Large Ore Carrier) series built by Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Co., Ltd., based on the whole construction processes, Mainly from two aspects of shafting system construction preparation and construction, with the 6 elements of 5M1E as the outline, and also in comparison with the quality management pattern leading in the shipbuilding industry, has revealed the weak points existing in the Company. In order to eliminate the weak points, it has been considered to apply different methods for different objects, so as to continually improve the enterprises'quality management level. It is also expected that, through the paper, comparison and studying processes for the subject in question, an optimized quality management model could be proposed for the shipbuilding enterprises in China.
