Since the reform and opening up, China has an incresed economic development and its total economic output is always ranking in the forefront in the world. However, there are more and more serious problem of environmental pollution, such as urban severe haze, rural open-air garbage dumps and the irrational use of land resources, which has not only seriously affected the lives of the residents, but also affected the sustainable development of our economy. This paper attempts to estimate performance in rural areas of green development, and analyze factors that affect the performance of our rural areas from the perspective of theoretical and empirical, so as to provides a theoretical basis for improving the performance of green development in rural areas of China and promoting the country to improve the performance of green development as a whole. This paper aims at analyzing the differences of the performance of rural green development between regions and the different factors in rural areas of green development performance. First, systematically sort out the existing literature on the meaning of green development, and classified the factors that influence the development of green. Secondly, based on the Solow model, combined with the actual situation of China's rural economic development, build a theoretical model to analyze the impacting mechanism of different factors on green development performance in rural areas.Thirdly, based on the rural data from 2003 to 2012 of 31 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions in China, this paper not only evaluates dynamically and analyzes the performance of rural green development by the method combined multiple DEA models with Gini criterion, but also compares the rural green development performance among provinces and areas. It is found that the nationwide performance of rural green development in China is presented an increasing tendency, which indicates that China is focused on both rural economic development and environmental protection. Moreover, the performances of rural green development in different areas are not alike. Among these areas, the highest performance level of rural green development is the Northeast, and the performance of the Northwest is lower than that of northeastern area, but higher than the other areas. Meanwhile, the performance of rural green development of the North China, Eastern China and mid-south China are lower. Further, the performances of rural green development in provinces are increased by year. However, from the interior point of views, the performance levels of some provinces are not only in low levels, but also lower than the average level of these areas. This result indicates that the levels of rural green development in these provinces are low, and their low levels restrict the overall level of rural green development. Last but not least, by constructing spatial panel data model, this paper investigates the influence of different factors on the performance of green development in rural areas in China based on the rural data from 2003 to 2012 of China's 31 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions. The empirical results shows that the level of urbanization, the income gap between urban and rural areas, industrial structure and the development of green agricultural price hinder the development of performance in rural areas of China. But if higher the contribution of the rural economy is, the more beneficial to the development of surrounding rural green performance. Finally, with the current performance of the basic situation of China green development and based on theoretical analysis and empirical analysis, this paper puts forward corresponding policy recommendations on green development about how to improve the performance of green development in the rural areas of China.
