The Competitiveness Stufy For The Chinese Contractors To Exploit The Market Of The High-Speed Rail In America

According to the statistics released by Engineering News Record, the total turnover growth of the international contractors in the past ten years reachs 263%, from ?139.8 billion in 2003 to ?507.5 billion in 2012. The proportion of the transportation construction accounted for 25.6% of the total amount. The high-speed rail construction expanded rapidly around the United States, Russia, Australia, Brazil and other countries in recent years. President Obama of the United States, carry out the decisions of the construction of high-speed railway at the end of 2012 re-election, to establish a national network of high speed railway corridor, which will bring more development opportunities for Chinese high-speed rail contractors. Based on the enterprise competitiveness theory, this study analyzes the development situation of high-speed rail contractors. Through literature reviewing, this paper analyzes all kinds of competitiveness evaluation model of the contractors, finally settled on the BP neural network and the Data Envelopment Analysis method as the main research method of this paper to discuss the competitive status of high-speed rail contractors from China through Matlab code.The results are as following:1) In the field of high speed rail construction, several enterprises from China have already been among the first level of the market as the market leader, but the vast majority of all the enterprises are still in the third level as chaser of the market, need to enhance the various elements of the competitiveness in the future. And for the Chinese leading contractor such as China Communications Construction Company, their success depend on the domestic market badly, all the indicators have long distance from the top international contractors, need to be further strengthened.2) In the domain of high-speed motor car contracting, the overall competitiveness of Chinese contractors are in the middle level among all the international contractors, their competitiveness depends on their scale except the technology. After the merger of CSR and CNR, the scale of contractor will further increase, but the technology competitiveness has not been improved significantly. The scale redundancy must be alerted after the merger.Main contribution of this study are as following:1) This study analyzes the competitive situation of Chinese contractors in the high-speed rail fields, providing decision support for Chinese high-speed rail companies expanding abroad.2) This paper analyzes the applicability of various competitiveness evaluation methods under different conditions, and discusses the advantages and defects of all the evaluation method, providing the Matlab code of all the methods for the convenient application of the further study.
