The Understanding To The Western Science And Technology In Modern China

The failure of the Opium War in 1840 and the signing of a series of unequal treaties,making the "door" of China was open again, and Chinese society had changed thoroughly. After the "door" was open, not only did a large number of strangers with western civilization come to China,but also a batch of Chinese travelers went abroad to travel around the world. These Chinese went abroad with different purposes, the envoys of the Qing Dynasty was to investigate the western politics and culture, the businessmen wanted to go business and get rich, the poor men wanted to make a living, the literati and scholars wanted to seek knowledge, and the fugitives went abroad for political asylum. They had written down all they had seen and heard abroad, and introduced the politics, culture, local conditions and customs of the Western to their Chinese natives, and they wanted to explore the reason why the Western was strong and rich. These works are written down in literary style, most of them are diaries, traveling proses, and also poetry and political articles. After the reform and opening up,with the development of literature and the rise of “culture craze” in the area of academic world, the modern Chinese overseas travelling notes and some cultural works gradually have caused attention by the society as an important cultural phenomenon in the history of modern China. Today, with the proceeding of Reform and Opening Up in China, it is very important to strengthen the research of the modern overseas traveling notes. The emphasis is to analyze the writers' thoughts and the historic values of their works. The article, on the one hand, tries to analyze modern China's understanding to the western science and technology and the nature of the modern science and technology through the introduction of the writers' life and thoughts, on the other hand, the author aims to explore our understanding to the western science and technology and its impact on China by integrating the historic changes of modern Chinese society. Thus, it is beneficial for us to deepen the comprehensive cognition to the modern history and improve the ability of reform and comprehensive national strength, so as to realize the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
