EPC Project General Contractor Selection

In the 80s, some developed countries gradually come up the Engineering-Procurement-Construction (EPC) mode/turnkey model, but this model is relatively late in our country, in addition, the price still is the main factors for contractor's selection in our country, we do not have a complete EPC project contractor selection procedures and methods. In domestic market, there are many different levels of the EPC contractors, it caused how to choose a qualified EPC general contractor is particularly important for the owner.In this thesis, based on my working experience in petrochemical EPC project, taken the contractor selection as the theme, firstly, through the literature research and reading documentation, analyze the selection approach, methods and procedures of the EPC contractor, and then through the questionnaire to use the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) to determine the selection mode for the EPC project at the prequalification stage and at the technical evaluation stage, respectively. Finally, taking an example to demonstrate that using AHP method to determine the contractor selection at different stages, the proposed scheme is practicable and reliable.Through this study, the main conclusions are as follows:firstly, introduce the current situation of the EPC project general contractor selection; secondly, study the petrochemical EPC projects to select general contractor in the prequalification stage, thirdly, research on contractor selection in the evaluation phase of petrochemical EPC projects, finally, choose A company peroxide line II project as an example to use AHP to select contractor from prequalification stage and technical evaluation stage respectively.Therefore, the scientific method to choose the right contractor, not only save the time and man-hour costs at the tender evaluation phase, but also bring sustained and stable economic growth after the project completion for the owner. At the same time, the contractor also improved the company reputation and credibility as a good foundation. This thesis is a certain reference value for the domestic petrochemical industry EPC project owners on how to choose the general contractor.
