The Existing Problems And Its Countermeasures In The Development Of Sweet-Waxy Corn In Shanxi Province

Corn has become one of the important food crops in the present. It has a wide variety of types and is widely used. It also is one of the important feeds. In the past, corn was only used as food. Its high yield is the only goal people want to reach. In recent years, with the further research on corn, the planting structure of cornhas been improved. The sweet-waxy corn can be used as fresh food, and the straw also has very high economic value. Therefore, to speed up the breeding and product development of sweet-waxy maizecan not only improve people’s quality of life, but also improve the income of farmers.Shanxi is a major agricultural province, and also a large province of corn cultivation and consumption. But due to the constraints of the market, the breeding and processing of the sweet-waxy corn limited the development of sweet-waxy corn in Shanxi. From 2010 to 2011, the pilot project in Taigu County, Yuci District, Dingxiang County, Dai County, Qingxu County hans been undertaken. The projectlasted for two years. In 2010, the contract task had been completed successfully according to the plan. In this project, the sweet-waxy corn had a high yield. The project ended in good result and got high social and economic benefits and also got a high praise from the local farmers.In 2011, the project exceeded the target andoverfulfilled the task on the contract.Through the implementation of the projects in sweet-waxy corn planting for two years, some problems in the sweet-waxycorn industryare found:for the first, the bred corn varietieshas poor resistance, the technology issingle and backward, and the varieties for processing is not enough; secondly:the planting scale is too small, the cultivation technology for high yield and high efficiency is not complete, and the quality supervision system lags behind; thirdly, the processing technologyis backward, and lacksin deep processing products; fourthly, people lack in the knowledge of the sweet-waxy corn, the market construction is not complete.According to the existing problems in the development of sweet-waxy corn in Shanxi, this paper puts forward the corresponding development countermeasures:firstly, we should strengthen the breeding of sweet-waxy corn varieties and improve the quality of sweet-waxy corn; secondly, we should adopt the large-scale and intensive cultivation mode and generalize the technology which can increase the yield and efficiency. We should breed different varieties according to the characteristics of different regions and improvethe construction of the quality supervision system; thirdly, we should improve the processing technology of sweet-waxy corn and promote the standardization construction of sweet-waxy corn; fourthly, we should strengthen the propaganda of sweet-waxy corn, improve people’s understanding of sweet-waxy corn, improve the circulation system, establish special brand of sweet-waxy corn, speed up the land circulation, accelerate the scale planting of sweet-waxy corn, promote the combination of agriculture and animal husbandry, and improve the comprehensive benefits.
