Career management refers to the process of developing, achieving and monitoring career objectives as well as strategies implementation, which integrates long-term interests and mutual development of an organization and an individual, therefore career management should not only be individual behaviors. An organization, as the carrier of individual development should take career management as the priority in human resource management.An individual's career is a dynamic process of development, which could be classified into various stages. Even though vocation selections, vocations, features of different jobs and vocation transferring vary with people's specific condition, an individual's career develops as his/her age increases, and there are commons in his/her psychological characteristics and developmental focuses; during different stages, there are relatively many differences in an individual's needs, attitude, working behaviors and psychological contracts between an organization and the employee, with which corresponding plans and managerial strategies will also change in accordance.Therefore it is essential to conduct oriented researches on specific developmental strategies for various developmental stages of employees' careers.This thesis analyzes current status of career management of knowledge workers and put forward a new career management plan based on the analysis on problems existed in career management in D company. It consists of six chapters. The first chapter is introduction. It mainly introduces the background, objectives and significance and research methodology of this thesis. The second chapter is literature review in which the definitions, classical theories used in this thesis will be illustrated in detail. The third chapter is case description which introduces the basic condition and industrial features, human resources status and overview, current status of career management,and problem analysis on employees' career management in D company. The fourth chapter carries on the statistical analysis to the human resources in different stage of career. It includes questionnaire design explanation, collection, reorganization and findings statistical analysis. The fifth chapter is an optimization plan of employee career management in D company according to the problem, including broadening horizontal and vertical career developmental pathways, strengthening organizational management, improving vocational information management system, and implementing strategies of career management of employees at different stages. The six chapter are safeguards to employee career management in D company, including improving new and old supporting measures, completing personnel supporting system,increasing career management activities, and building an assessment and feedback platform.However, this thesis in-depth analyzes human resource management and career management in a local state-owned company by taking D company as an example. It also designs supporting developmental pathways to improve human resource developing mechanism which conducts optimization on career management of different stages, ages and positions.
