With increasing business competition, the advantage of internal talent forms one of the core competencies for a business organization. Hence, the competition of talent becomes a critical fight for enterprises accordingly. The organizations need to figure out how to allocate the human resources in a way that ensuring the most possibility in reaching the strategic goals as given ahead. From this aspect, we can see it is crucial to have effective ways to review the talents within the organization. This article demonstrates a sample of talent review program in a young Chinese private company, VC Company, by evidencing the application of 9-box grid. The purpose of this thesis is to provide practical recommendations for improving the effectiveness and accuracy in applying 9-box grid for talent review.The thesis based on the research method of case study and literature research. With the method of case study, the entire process of initiation, process design, project communication, and implementation of talent review in VC Company were closely observed. Based on the specific situation in the case, the obstacles and difficulties encountered during the talent review were revealed. The method of literature research provides strong support in the analysis and solution for the research purpose. By leveraging the theories, methodologies and academy opinions given by the scholars, the gaps between theoretical study and actual practice were discovered. The factors affecting the effectiveness and accuracy in applying 9-box grid for talent review were disclosed, solutions based on the affecting reason analysis are given. Finally, 6 key points for ensuring the effectiveness and accuracy of applying 9-box grid for talent review are highlighted as below:Key Point 1: Organizational long term objective and strategy defines the basic direction of talent review.Key Point 2: Choose the suitable method for objective performance assessment.Key Point 3: Identify competency model via BEI method with rigorous metering and validation.Key Point 4: Apply multiple assessment methods for the rating of potential.Key Point 5: Build up people development system to boost the effectiveness of talent review.Key Point 6: Improve the effectiveness of retention policy by improving motivational factors and ensuring hygiene factors in working environment.
