Empirical Study On The Total Factor Productivity Of Logistics Industry Within Pan Pearl River Delta

In recent years,with the rapid development of the logistics industry,the government of China and its local governments have increasingly recognized the importance of logistics in enhancing the economic growth.So they have already put the logistics industry as one of the emerging industries into the local and regional planning.As China's largest regional economic cooperation,Pan-PRD regional cooperation is a typical representative of Chinese regional economic development and cooperation,How to make the Pan-PRD region logistics to serve other related industries better is an urgent topic.As the core indicator for measuring performance of a industry,efficiency provides us a new angle of view to solve the problem.Therefore,this paper aims at the logistics productivity of Pan Pearl River Delta to do the research.Through analysis the growth drivers and influencing factors of the Pan-PRD logistics industry,this study provides the reference in order to further promote the rapid and steady development of its logistics industry.Firstly,through researching the total factor productivity change of the Pan-PRD logistics industry which can be divided into technical progress and technical efficiency from 2004 to 2014,using the DEA-Malmquist index method,the author finds that the total factor productivity has grown at an average rate of 9.3%.The improvement of total factor productivity is mainly from the increase of technological progress,with the average growth rate of 11%,While technical efficiency has dropped by 1.6%,And the further decomposition of technical efficiency finds that pure technical efficiency has decreased by 0.7%,scale efficiency has decreased by 0.9%.This suggests that the main driver of productivity of the Pan-PRD logistics industry is technological progress.On the other hand,it shows the lower technical efficiency doesn't make full use of the resources and technical in the Pan-PRD logistics industry,which provides a way to improve.Secondly,by using DEAP2.1 to estimate the provinces' TFP within Pan-PRD and analyzing the trend of each province's average TFP from 2004-2014,the author finds that different trend of TFP among provinces reflects the different factors.In order to distinguish the differences,this paper further analyzes the TFP,capital and labor contribution of the Pan-PRD logistics industry and concludes the logisticsindustry development model of in the region: Guangdong,Guangxi,Hainan and Jiangxi belongs to intensive labor-intensive,Fujian Province belongs to extensive labor-intensive,Guizhou and Sichuan belongs to intensive capital-intensive,Hunan belongs to intensive labor-capital-intensive.Yunnan Province is a typical extensive capital driven type.Finally,from the perspective of technological progress and technical efficiency of TFP decomposition factors,the author constructs the mechanisms logistics model,which shows TFP how to influence its factors.And then this paper uses Eviews6.0 to do the regression analysis.At last,based on the five factors,which includes R & D investment,human capital,institutional,government intervention and the industrial structure,this paper puts forward relevant policy recommendations.
