Since the managed pressure drilling, or MPD forshort, is a complicated systematic engineering, it is inevitable to encounter various problems during the drilling process that require timely solution. If the wellsite monitoring indoor operators were not familiar with the MPD technology and control mechanism, once problems occurred, they easily made man-made operation mistakes, such as failure to take timely and effective throttling back pressure control measures, giving improper control instruction. These mistakes leaded to overflowing, serious when even well blowout occurred, resulting in drilling accident.For better to train the MPD operators to make them familiar with the process, moreover better supervision of wellsite and personnel operation, furthermore to provide a platform for experts to make remote decision, this paper proposes a MPD throttling back pressure remote control method. The method based on the virtual reality technology is used as the industrial application of the control of MPD throttle back pressure. This remote control method not only can be used to MPD teaching and training, but also can transmit the field level information to the off-site workspace, achieving supervision of wellsite and personnel operation directly and efficiently while completing the device remote control in the real world through human-computer interaction in the virtual world. And finally achieved the following research results:1. Through combining deep research on the MPD technology and the throttling back pressure control mechanism with the characteristics of virtual reality technology, a remote industrial control application architecture based upon virtual reality technology was designed;2. Three-dimensional modeling of well site equipment were completed by 3D modeling software. And on this basis, the wellsite virtual scene was constructed to realize human computer interaction in virtual scene;3. Parameter tuning for the throttle valve control algorithm of the chock manifold was set up, the PLC configuration and development were completed as well as the system PLC control function;4. Combined the characteristics of virtual reality system with features of PLC control system, the configuration and development of communication module of virtual system were accomplished on the basis of research on remote communication mode, realizing the remote control function of the virtual reality system.5. The access mode for database and three-dimensional model were designed. Then based on the. Net framework and C# language, a MPD throttling back pressure control system was developed, which combined virtual teaching, online scene construction and remote throttle back pressure control as an integrated one.The MPD throttling back pressure remote control system designed in this paper, making use of virtual reality technology, is not only for teaching training, but also for online scene construction according to different site configuration. Moreover, the system can import industrial field level data from well site to the off-site work area, enabling the off-site work area to supervise the wellsite and personnel operation. Through online virtual scene loading, to control site equipment remotly in the most intuitive way, not only can reduce the time and expense of experts to the scene, but also can make expert decision through the screen, thus breaking the application limitation of virtual reality technology in oil field, and promoting the construction of petroleum enterprises informatization and digital oilfield.
