| "Deschooling" is a word from "Deschooling Society" published in 1970 at America by Austria sociologist Ivan Illich(1926-2002),it aimed at the schooling education,especially the institutionalization of school.In the book Illich reveals thoroughly the disadvantages of the traditional school system,and combined with the emerging Internet technology,it proposed a replacement"school network" to abolish the "traditional school".Because of its thoroughness in critic and in concept,"Deschooling Society" this book has aroused strong social repercussions in 70s,even called one of the most important published work of the United States since 50s,its influence has continued since."deschooling" is not only an educational ideology,but also a practice of getting rid of the shackles of traditional education.It also resonates with other scholars,such as futurists,educationalists,Internet experts,sociologists and architects.This includes Herman Hertzberg.Herman Hertzberg(1932-)is a heavyweight architect in Holland as well as the world,who is alsoan educationalist and sociologist engaged in the teaching work for more than forty years,since 1960 he has been keen on practice of designing school building.In his book "Space and Learning"published in 2008,he concluded,"School today cannot escape the deschooling process.There is a greater or lesser shift in emphasis from obligatory schooling to more room for personal initiative and pleasure in learning".This article through analyzing Hertzberg monographs and architectural works,summed up the three"deschooling" processes implied in his 50 years of practice in school architecture,including the first process:dethroned of classroom,second processes:dethroned of corridor,third processes:dethroned of institution.Illich is a radical critic in education,Hertzberg,is a progressive reformer with 50 years’ continuous contemplation.The former pointed towards the future,hoping to create new system to replace the old one,the latter was based on the present,through practice to get rid of the old system little by little,by clasping both could a complete chain of education mode form,it directs from history to the future.From introducing the concept "deschooling",this paper pointed out its significance in current and future education reform,then the practice of designing school of Hertzberg as the clue,space design vocabulary and organizing methods of Hertzberg organization was analyzed,then it summarized his method and process of realizing deschooling.In the end,it focus on the future and considered the design of new school after the "deschooling",so as to expand the thinking in creating and learning space. |
