China is now in the initial stage of basic education system reform. With theadvocation and gradual implementation of quality-oriented education, traditionaleducation space cannot meet students’ demand of developing in an all-around way inthe modern education model of the new century. By studying the education modelsand education space development history of elementary and secondary school atabroad and relating to the education models and education space developmentcondition of elementary and secondary school at home, the thesis reaches theconclusion that it is an inevitable trend to change from exam-oriented education toquality-oriented education in China. The core content of this thesis is how to developelementary and secondary education space so that it can meet the demand ofquality-oriented education.Based on child psychology and behavioral development laws, the thesis exploresthe influence of education space on children growth and studies and discusses aboutthe education space design that suits child psychology and behavioral developmentlaws. By analyzing the behavior actions of the education space objects——teachersand students in depth, the thesis comes to the conclusion that various teaching modelsshould be combined, and teaching space units and teaching space syntheses——aneducation space form in line with the teaching methods should be employed inquality-oriented education.Teaching space unit is the education space of a class. It suits the current teachingmodel with classroom as the major education space in China, and is great guidingsignificance to the elementary and secondary education space reform and design innowadays. The teaching space synthesis proposes five basic indoor education space,respectively big group teaching, small class teaching, the multimedia technologyequipment and scientific teaching, small group teaching and individual teaching.Meanwhile, it also mentions the space design methods of corridor, stairs, square andcourtyard, etc to meet the future construction development needs of elementary andsecondary school. Only the combination of indoor space and outdoor space can meetthe demands of quality-oriented education to the utmost.By analyzing the cases of excellent elementary and secondary school educationspace design at home and abroad, this thesis summarizes a set of great education space design methods for elementary and secondary school, raises the appraisalmethods of excellent elementary and secondary education space design to instruct theeducation space design of elementary and secondary school construction.
