With the development of Chinese movie industry, a lot of external funds enter the film industry. People in other fields began to notice the IP film. The concept of IP is becoming more and more popular. The year 2015 was called “the first year of the Chinese IP film”. IP film has occupied most of the Chinese film market and achieved amazing success in economics. However, most studies on the IP film are just focused on the concept and the current situation nowadays. They seldom make a comprehensive and profound discussion to the related fields based on any theories. This paper uses the literature analysis, comparative study, case studies and interviews method to study the Chinese IP movie and the causes of this phenomenon in a unique and comprehensive perspective. This paper also analyzes the problems of Chinese IP film and the reality of the Chinese film industry chain. Thus, reasonable suggestions will be put forward for the future of the development of the Chinese IP film.The paper is divided into five parts. The first part describes the background, significance of the topic, and the current research situation of IP film in China. It mainly defines the related concepts of IP and IP film in detail. IP does not just mean the "intellectual property",it means creation of the mind protected by legal. The IP film refers to a kind of film adapted by fans-based novels, songs, movies and television, the story of a particular phrase or image. The classification of the IP film is put forward for the first time in this paper according to the source of IP movie. IP film is a very important part of the cultural industry chain.In the first chapter, it summarizes the main features of the IP film by studying the production, publicity, marketing and other aspects of the process of the IP film. They are the natural advantage of the brand, the strong fans effect, the high participation of the users and the variety of marketing methods.In the second chapter, it explains the driving factor of the IP film from the internal and external aspects. The internal factor is the lack of Chinese movie industry's innovation. There are a lot of external factors: the development of communication technology, consumer culture, popular culture, and the large number of commercial capital.The paper also describes the problems encountered in the development of the Chinese IP film and its negative effects on the Chinese society, such as the unclear concept of IP film, the poor level of technology, the low level of the IP film and the lack of responsibility and innovation of the filmmakers.The way to result the problems ought to be like following: to build a strong team with social responsibility and creative abilities, to improve the relevant laws and regulations to promote the development of the IP movies, to promote the IP film with the Internet platform and to understand the relationship between the Cultural Industry and movies correctly.Through the study of the IP film,it shows that the IP film is the inevitable product of the development of Chinese film industry at the certain stage because of its own subjective factors and many objective factors. IP film has brought unprecedented market benefit for Chinese film industry, but IP film also has some obvious defects, which also restrict to enhance the quality of the Chinese film, especially the original and innovative ability. We guarantee the advance development of Chinese film industry through mining the characteristics and regular patterns of the IP film.
