Sleeve dance in Chinese classical dance and Chinese calligraphy are rooted in the fertile soil of splendid Chinese culture. Also, they were born and grew up under the caring of Chinese traditional culture and the concepts of aesthetics, so sleeve dance in Chinese classical dance has a lot in common with Chinese calligraphy regarding the aesthetics standard. Since 1980, China has formed a set of relatively complete teaching materials and a set of relatively mature teaching patterns on sleeve dance; however, in the process of creating the sleeve dance, the technique and performance of the dance movements and aesthetic value of the dance are still in the stage of exploration. During the process of creating the sleeve dance “Cao Xing Ge”, it has been found that Chinese calligraphy gives a lot of inspiration to the choreography of the Chinese classical dance. Therefore, referring the research findings of Chinese calligraphy and from the noumenon of sleeve dance, this paper explores and discusses about the richness of creating the sleeve dance under the guidance of Chinese traditional culture and national aesthetic consciousness, using the sleeve dance “Cao Xing Ge” as a specific example by demonstrating its creating and performance practice, and thus to give theoretical and practical references to the choreography of sleeve dance, enrich the movements and posture in the dance, and help understand the aesthetics in the dance.
