| In the process of reviewing various cultural documents,I discovered that during the late Ming Dynasty emerged several literal works and painting works depicting homosexual subjects and themes.Further,at the time these works became widely consumed and spread,eventually forming a very distinct phenomema in Chinese art history.However,due to the emphasis in ancient China on moral education,these forms of erotic imagery,considered taboo did not allow research regards these works or their history to enter into mainstream Chinese art history.The late Ming Dynasty’s consumption and interest in erotic images specifically depicting homosexuality was extremely widespread.From this,we may consider and learn a great amount regarding attitude about homosexuality in the late Ming Dynasty’s intellectuals and greater population.Thus,I believe,research regarding such late Ming Dynasty male-oriented exotic subjects holds great significance in restoring the human rights of such sexually-oriented minority groups in China an in general.This paper will be divided into three parts to elucidate this subject.Part One: Will be an introduction regarding the basic understanding and circumstances regarding sexuality in the society of late Ming Dynasty,China.First by breify discussing the economic and cultural developments and circumstances of late Ming Dynasty society.Secondly,uncovering examples of male homosexuality in various historical and cultural documents.Later,analyzing the phenomena of Ming Dynasty Erotic imagery.Finally using a Li Yu’s famous classical work as an example,considering the phenomena of homosexuality in late Ming Dynasty literature.Part Two: Serving as the main part of this paper,part two will focus on a detailed analisis on the imagery and forms of Homosexual erotic pictures in the late Ming Dynasty.This discussion will be in three parts,including the discussion of the feminization of the male ‘image’ and its form of expression.In addition,this paper will discuss the origins and analize the psychology become extreme forms of male homosexuality,such as the process of castraphication and transgendering.Finally,the third part will incorporate elements of Baroque Art expressions form Latin America and use such elements to consider various binaries of cross cultural themes,thus giving new vantage point to the aesthetics and artistic value of late Ming Dynasty Erotic imagery. |
