The Tang People Wrote About The Chaos Of Anshi

The thesis explores the Tang people's description of the revolt of An Lushan and Shi Siming in terms of imperial edict,poetry and epitaph.The imperial edict,which has the property of representing the emperor's words,makes its description of the revolt of An Lushan and Shi Siming represent the official attitude and standpoint.In this chapter,the following points worth to be noticed:firstly,in the aspect of time,the description of imperial edict about the rebellion of An and Shi focuses on the period of Suzong,as well as that of Daizong and Dezong.Secondly,from the perspective of the content of description,the imperial edict describes the disasters caused by the revolt of An and Shi,the description about An Lushan is rather obvious,which is considered the chief criminal.What's more,the description of rebel forces' ethnic groups is also involved.The poetry part focuses on Li Bai and Du Fu,whose poems are both related to the basic process of the revolt of An Lushan and Shi Siming.A considerable account of the rebellion related poems concentrate on the huge disaster and damage brought by the revolt of An and Shi to the Tang society and the common people.Both of Li and Lu's poems stick out by describing the ethnic property and original places of the revolt forces.Du also stands out by describing the whole time.The most essential part of this paper is epitaph's description of the revolt of An Lushan and Shi Siming.According to the standpoint in the rebellion,the epitaphs divide the Tang people into three categories:the people of countering insurgency,the sufferer in the rebellion and the participants in the rebel forces.The people of counter insurgency includes people who get promoted and people who become an official because of countering the revolt.The sufferers are generally divided into four kinds:people who lost their lives in countering insurgency,people who migrate in order to find a shelter,people who seek for a seclusion and people who are buried because of the revolt.On probing into the reasons of describing the revolt of An Lushan and Shi Siming,there are mainly three situations except some simple description.Firstly,merits claiming for those people of countering insurgency,secondly,the grievance venting by those sufferers,thirdly,the covering of the rebellion participants.In the direction of the Tang people's epitaphs about the revolt of An Lushan and Shi Siming,it mainly concentrates on the individual of An Lushan,the ethnic property of the rebel forces,the ages of the rebellion eruption and the original places and main battlefield of the revolt.
