China's Acceptance Of Bazin's Film Theory

Bazin's film theory attracted remarkable attention in three different eras in China. In 1962, the "westernization group" in Chinese film field tried to introduce Bazin's theory but was interrupted. During 1970s, Bazin's film theory once again aroused Bazin hit for this era. Subject to then social contradictions and cognitive limitation, Bazin's theory on the one hand was popular, on the other hand was being intentionally destroyed, filtered, misread and rewritten. It was until 2008, the 90th anniversary of Bazin's birthday and the 50th anniversary of his death date, both theory circle and creation circle from domestic and foreign film industries gathered together holding a grand international seminar concerning Bazin's film theory with rationality and introspection. This historical event reviewed Bazin's film theory, prudently envisaging those misreads on Bazin's theory during Chinese history. Knowing the destiny of Bazin's theory in China, we could understand how western theory was accepted and rewritten. Taking how Bazin's theory was accepted in China as breaking point, we could study Bazin's theory with a perspective of view of Chinese film, as well as Chinese movie under influence of Bazin's theory.According to the splendid time track Bazin's theory formed in China, in Chapter One, I arranged a track recording history of people's acceptance of Bazin's theory with a time dimension. In Chapter Two, in respect of the reduction and misread that Bazin's theory experienced in China, I specifically illustrated from three aspects the characteristics revealed during the process of acceptance of Bazin's theory in China. In Chapter Three, basing on the characteristics revealed during the process of acceptance of Bazin's theory in China, with a spatial dimension, I further analyzed different situations for Bazin's theory underwent in politics, culture and economic under the Chinese film context. In Chapter Four, in sincere memory and respect of Bazin, I tried to study the far-reaching influence and inspiration of development of Bazin's in Chinese film industry.Substantially, what Bazin's theory pursued was the fundamental expression and introspection of human affection and value orientation, which represented a kind of humanistic care and realistic contemplation on spiritual level. Although Bazin's film theory experienced ups and downs and even cold reception when being accepted in China, yet spiritual inspiration for reality brought by Bazin would long live. Bazin's theory is the classic of classics that any film theory learner could ever miss.
