The society during the transition period from Qin Dynasty to Han Dynasty is like a huge furnace, under the seemingly hot and boiling appearance of which the spirit core that only belongs to that era was calcining. Power and intelligence, morality and immorality, heroes and scoundrels, marketplaces and countryside, and benevolence and violence were all evolving around this spirit core in the stream of history. The Emperor Gaozu Liubang of Han rose and fell in this era. As the Emperor Gaozu swept by the stream of history, Liu Bang, who was named Liu Ji at the early age who enjoyed drunken and earthly life in the countryside, was suddenly enlightened with rational intelligence in the culture surrounding of fairy tales and God's will and started his legendary life. This is rather rare in the Records of the Grand History of China. Compared with Xiang Yu, who was colored with the feelings of nobility and alienated of Heroism, Liu Bang showed a mixture of grassroots personalities and restrained rationality, which appeared alternatively in this life and made the figure of Liu Bang more vivid. Thus the life experience of Liu Bang should be interpreted from a super-moral angle. As a objective narrator and subjective prophet, Sima Qian presented an ultimate incisive and vivid text of the Biography of Emperor Gaozu of Han. Drunkenness dream is a state of irrational sensitive addiction driven by thenature of human beings. Just like those figures in Greek Mythologies who have taken their whole life as dreams to illustrate the meaning of life in drinking and carouses, drunkenness dream life has its unique meaning for life in its nature. For most people who have spent their lives dreamily, it's a general state of life. Life in its nature has no meaning. All meanings are endowed by phenomenon. Similarly, Qingyuanxingsi, a Zen master of Song Dynasty, has put forwards three realms of practicing meditation:at the beginning, mountains are mountains and waters are waters; when there is some enlightenment, mountains are no longer mountains, nor are waters; when there is fully enlightenment, mountains are still mountains and so are waters. With the influence of external meanings, life is endowed with various forms. The earlier stage of Liu Bang was in such a dreamy state without subjective consciousness, indulging in the countryside wine shops. Along with the start of his different life of countering Qin & Chu, Liu Bang's drunkenness dreamy state finally entered the natural state jointing with the era, among which there was an explosion of subjective consciousness. Countering Qin and Suppressing Chu were meaning added to the drunkenness dreamy life of Liu Bang. This is the cohesion stage of his drunkenness dream consciousness. Becoming an emperor, Liu Bang became more eager to return to the happiness at the beginning of life. At this stage, he realized the internal illusoriness of meaning itself, and the meaningless of life in the end. Respectively, the retrospect of original inner self became the most desirable thing for Liu Bang at the last moment of his life.This thesis is going to illustrate the life track and life consciousness of Liu Bang with "drunkenness dream" as the core concept. Based on a detailed reading of the text of the Biography of Emperor Gaozu of Han with other texts of the Grand History of China as the supplement, it goes deep into the drunkenness dreamlike life of Liubang through the deconstruction and reconstruction of narrative languages and skills, especially, in a situation where the academic studies of Liu Bang are over regularized and moralized. Based on the text of the Biography of Emperor Gaozu of Han, this thesis analyzes the influence of exterior surroundings on the inner life core of Liubang following the time line and re-presents a Liu Bang with respect to texts and history, which would break the traditional definition and comment on Liu Bang and truly plants the life core of Liubang into the core of era and history. It will restore the true life needs of Liu Bang by virtue of the narrative power of Sima Qian and the spirit world of Sima Qian by virtue of the drunkenness dream track of Liu Bang.This thesis is mapped as follows.The introduction explains the reason, the meanings and the aims of this thesis with a literature review on current interpretations on the text of the Biography of Emperor Gaozu of Han.The first chapter starts with the drunkenness dream life of Liu Bang before his rise-up and his life experience in the countryside. Combined the folk tale narrative skill of Sima Qian, it further interprets the life of Liubang in a spiritual level and in the context of fictionists'texts.The second chapter restructures the figure and spiritual world of Liubang in the counter-Qin & Chu period by interpreting the bursting of drunkenness dream consciousness and the alternative appearance of sense and sensibility. Beside, it also explores the delicate narrative skill of Sima Qian by the change of time and locations.The third chapter is the core of this thesis. Liu Bang's returning to original life is also the core of narration of this thesis. By deconstructing the Emperor Liu Bang and analyzing the poetic part of Liu Bang, it endows Liu Bang, a history figure, with literature value and meanings.The last part is the conclusion, which combines the life experiences and inspirations of Liu Bang and Sima Qian as a whole.
