Integration of information from face and voice plays a central role in our social interactions. Understanding face and voice integrating them into a common percept. It has been mostly studied that integration of affective or identity information for understanding many facets of multisensory integration. These studies have used a variety of criteria for identifying and quantifying multisensory integration. However, the reliability of analytical methods traditionally criterion has recently been criticized, and other criteria the principle of Inverse Effectiveness have been suggested to provide a more comprehensive interpretation the process of multisensory integration. Here, the present study investigated this process using EEG.Experiment 1:students were recruited as paid volunteers from a university. Participants were presented with a randomized stream of unimodal Facial, unimodal Vocal and bimodal Facial-vocal at low, middle and high angry emotional intensity as well as neutral facial-vocal stimuli. Participants were required to judge whether the emotion conveyed by the stimuli (regardless of vocal and facial modality). Results were subjected to repeated measures ANOVAs with Intensity (Low, Middle, High), Modality (Facial,Vocal, Bimodal). Experiment 2:students were recruited as paid volunteers from a university. Participants were presented with a randomized stream of unimodal Facial, unimodal Vocal and bimodal Facial-vocal at low or high levels of noise with video clips of matching angry and neutral expressions. Results were subjected to repeated measures ANOVAs with Emotion (Neutral, Anger), Modality (Facial,Vocal, Bimodal), Noise:(Low, High). Participants were required to judge whether the emotion conveyed by the stimuli by pressing the "J" or "F" button on the keyboard.Our results revealed facial and vocal angry expressions are preferentially processed in early integration.1?The finding that multisensory integration enhancement effects early evoked brain activity occurred particularly for low intensity inputs, but not for middle and high intensity stimuli.2?The finding that multisensory integration enhancement effects early evoked brain activity occurred particularly for Neutral-Noise.3?The principle of IE is applicable for integrative processing of face and voice in the human brain.
