Preliminary Revision Of The Emotional Intelligence Scale (IPIP-EIS)

As a relatively new concept in the field of intelligence,emotional intelligence is getting more and more attention.In this study,the emotional intelligence scale(IPIP-EIS)was revised and the psychometric indexes were tested.In this study,the students of 8 colleges in Jiangsu province were selected by stratified sampling method,and the sample of norm was about 1121.After three revisions,the scale of Emotional Intelligence Scale(IPIP-EIS)was formed which suitable for college students in Jiangsu province.The results are as follows:1.The scale.The formal scale includes 7 dimensions,positive expression,negative expression and emotional decision dimension include 8 items,reactive pleasure and empathy focus dimensions contain 9 items,emotion attention and reactive depression dimensions contain 10 items,the scale has a total of 62 items,the item use 5 point scoring,delete 6 items from the original scale.2.Reliability.The internal consistency coefficient of each scale of Emotional Intelligence Scale(IPIP-EIS)was between 0.818 and 0.884;the test-retest reliability was between 0.751 and 0.851 after two weeks.3.Validity.The validity of the scale was analyzed by content validity,construct validity and criterion validity.(1)Content validity.The item of the scale is derived from the Barchard doctoral dissertation,which is included in the international personality project database(IPIP),and the psychology teacher also gives a better evaluation of the project,so the content validity of the questionnaire is good.(2)Construct validity.? Exploratory factor analysis of KMO value is 0.83,the seven dimensions can account for 49.51%of variation,the item loading are all in the corresponding dimension,the loading are all over 0.40 far more than non-target dimensions.? Correlation coefficient between factors.The correlation coefficient of the seven dimensions is between 0.146 and 0.592.? Confirmatory factor analysis showed that the dimensions of GFI value is between 0.95 and 0.97,the NFI value is between 0.92 and 0.96,the CFI value is between 0.93 and 0.98,the IFI value is between 0.93 and 0.98,the RMSEA value is between 0.05 and 0.09,according to the analysis results,the theoretical model and the original data fitted well.(3)Criterion validity.The 7 dimensions of Emotional Intelligence Scale(IPIP-EIS)and EIS score have a certain degree of correlation,the correlation coefficient is between 0.189 and 0.564.The emotional intelligence scale(IPIP-EIS)and the dimensions of Chinese Big Five Personality Questionnaire(short version)also have a certain degree of correlation,the correlation coefficient is between-0.429 and 0.468.The correlation between the dimensions of Emotional Intelligence Scale(IPIP-EIS)and positive negative emotion scale is between-0.305 and 0.679.(4)The Gender Norm and the urban and rural norm of college students in Jiangsu province are established.Conclusion:The Emotional Intelligence Scale(IPIP-EIS)has good reliability and validity.It can be used as an effective tool for measuring emotional intelligence of college students in Jiangsu province.
