IPIP-7 Personality Scale For Revision

As a tool exploring myself, personality scales play an important part in all kinds of counseling and guidance. IPIP-7-factor scale was build by a famous psychologist Goldberg on the basis of international personality item pool in1997, which was a new exploring tool of personality. This paper revised it. The researcher surveyed2750vocational college students in Hefei, Wuhu, Huainan, Fuyang, Tongling, Anqing of Anhui province,, in which there was an effective sample of2007, and there was a norm sample of1417.After translation and measuring of three times, the scale of English edition which had70items became the scale of Chinese edition which had44items, corresponding norm was formed. Specific conclusions are as follows:(1) The scale.26items are deleted, and the remaining44items form the formal scale. It can measure7dimensions, such as extraversion(7), agreeableness(3), conscientiousness(9), emotional stability(7), intellect(8), attractiveness(5) and negative_valence(5), and each dimension has3to9items, and it uses5points to rate.(2) Reliability analysis. Reliability of formal scale is good:The internal consistency coefficient Cronbach-α) of total scale is0.848;7dimensions’α are between0.607and0.783; after3weeks, the test-retest reliability coefficient of total scale is0.868, and test-retest reliability coefficients on7dimensions are between0.773and0.886.(3) Validity analysis. The results of content validity, structural validity and criterion-related validity show that the validity of the formal IPIP-7-factor scale Chinese version is good.Content validity:After several translation of master students of different majors,. test and analysis of three measuring, the content validity of the scale is guaranteed.Structural validity:Convergent and discriminant validity, exploring factor analysis are used to examine. The results show that the scale has good convergent(0.798-0.943) and discriminant validity(0.005-0.511);7factors extracted from44items are appropriate by exploring factor analysis;44items can explain79.559%of variation; communalities are0.709-0.840; factor loading is0.710-0.911. Criterion-related validity:The correlation between adults self-rating and acquaintance rating of the total scale is0.588, and that of each dimension is0.298-0.542, all correlations satisfy0.01significant level; correlations between the formal scale and EPQ in dimensions of extraversion and emotional stability are0.674and-0.749, which are very significant.(4)The norm is established. Norms of scores of vocational college students of Anhui province, sex and major norm are provided.
