A harmonious society is a happy vision that human being pursues,as well as an ideal society that Marxism political party unremittingly pursues. In recent years, domestic malignant events happen one by one.How to promote civic virtues and build a harmonious society becomes the focus issue. In China’s southwestern border,Dai nationality villages which is under the influence of Buddhism, once created a harmonious and loving society. This unique religious phenomenon attracts many scholars, some of whom even propose the idea that they can be promoted in the future to study in modern and contemporary society. The southern Theravada Buddhism introduced from outside world uses its powerful influence to deeply enlighten the local ethics. The villagers pursue the ceremony and behavior of Dana for getting good results. The thought of "do good deeds to benefit the after life" is deeply rooted in the hearts of people. Thus, moral rule and social order of Dai society get preserved. However, since the 1950s,the influence of religion has been waning along with all kinds of changes of the country. In Chapter One,I sort through the background of the paper selection, the significance and method of the research, and I’ve also summarized the research results did by the predecessors. In Chapter Two,based on the results of research and visit did by the predecessors,I sort through the general situation of "Na Mu" village and the research of Dai nationality’s "Bai" ceremony did by the scholars in early and recent time, and I also organized some of my interviews of the local villagers. In Na Mu village nowadays, the enthusiasm of religious faith remembered by the elder is apparently declining.Meanwhile, some ethical and moral issues are emerging. In Chapter Three, through reviewing all sorts of historical resources and records,I discussed the development of this village’s social ethics at the core of Dana. Before Buddhism was introduced in Dai,Dai had its own religious belief. The introduction of Buddhism has adapted itself to and reconstructed Dai’s ethic values. The value of Dana in Buddhism has profound influence in everyone, and it combines personal ethics with good fortune, thus turning good deeds into popular social behavior.Meanwhile,Buddhism has shaped the joint social ethics in Dai by missioning and making ceremonies, thus establishing a stable system of ethics for morality. In Chapter Four,I sort through some related historical resources in order to clearly present the changing of Dai’s ethics under the declination of religious belief nowadays, and based on such condition,I discussed the impact of religion on social ethics.Nowadays, under the tendency of Disenhantment, the holiness of religion is shattered, the ethical system established on it is threatened, and the enchantment of the ethics is removed. This is the social dilemma caused by the logic of dichotomy, which believes that tools and values are two different categories.Besides,I also discussed that the Chinese traditional value of "Monism" is meaningful to the modern Chinese society.Dating back to the ups and downs of history of southern Theravada Buddhism, the author thinks that the secularization of southern Theravada Buddhism in transmission makes it better adapt to the local Dai ethics and its primitive religion, making it take root and grow successfully. However, the contemporary passive excessive secularization has led to the gradual loss of religious authority which gradually losses the moral influence. This article wants to take this religious phenomenon as a sample to investigate the relationship between the religious divinity and secular practice,as well as its influence on social ethics. On the basis,it will further discuss the effect of religion on individual moral cultivation, community culture construction, local and national social governance so as to provide some enlightenment on creating a harmonious society.
