| Based on the dilemma in Hume’s theory on the idea of time,this paper is to seek for a reasonable explanation to it,through the analyzation of the two kinds of methods of the demonstration on the origin of the the idea of time,and combination with the basic principles of “Empiricism”,and with the same interpretation,do further studies on Hume’s theory on the idea and its relationship with his theory on the idea of time.This paper will be divided into five parts.In the first part,I discuss the general source of the complex idea,preliminarily revealing that the dilemma has hidden in Hume’s theory on the idea,which is the theoretical basis of the theory on the idea of time in his philosophy;the second part sorts out three different descriptions of the idea of time and with the comparative analysis among them,briefly reveals the the dilemma hidden in Hume’s theory on the idea of time,and then leads to the necessity to demonstrate "the origins of it";instead of one of the opposite of "continuity",the third part starts from the other opposite of "continuity",and from the two perspectives of "imagination mechanism" and "atomism",I make the demonstration of the origin of the idea of time,and then by the contrast of the two perspectives of "imagination mechanism" and "atomism",I simply sum up the two opposite cognitive styles,which is the reason for the dilemma hidden in the theory on the idea of time;the fourth part makes the contrast of the two opposite cognitive styles in the origin of the idea of time,and in the same way,I make the analyzation of the two opposite cognitive styles in the ttheory on the origin of the complex idea.Then,I will put forward the recognition of the relationship between the theory on the idea of time and the theory on the impression and idea.Afterward,reviewing the purpose of the paper,I discuss how to describe the experience respectively in these two kinds of cognitive styles.The last part gives a conclusion,in which the author predicts an expectation of the reconciliation of the two opposite cognitive styles,and through the research of "imagination",we hope to achieve the target. |
