The Relationship Between Parenting Style And College Students' Professional Values: The Mediating Role Of Achievement Motivation

Work values is an important factor affecting the employment of university students.Mature work values can guide students to form a correct sense of employment,establish appropriate direction of employment.This study explored the influence of parenting style on college students' work values,and the mediation effect of achievement motivation on parenting style and college students' work values.In this study,EMBU,AMS and WVI are adopted to investigate university students in two universities in Shanghai.A total of 700 questionnaires were distributed,and finally,655 questionnaires were collected,among which the valid questionnaires were 546.Using Pearson correlation analysis and regression analysis to explore the relationship among university students' work values,parenting style and achievement motivation,and the role of achievement motivation.The study found the following results: first,there are significant gender,grade and major differences in work values;there are significant gender and major differences in parenting style;there are significant grade differences in achievement motivation.Second,it is found that parenting style and achievement motivation have a significant impact on university students' work values.Parents' emotional warmth and understanding,parents' preference,father's over protection and mother's over interference of parenting style and achievement motivation have a positive effect on work values;parents' punishment,father's over interference,parents refused to deny have a negative effect on work value.Parenting style have an impact on achievement motivation.Parents' emotional warmth and understanding has a positive effect on achievement motivation.Third,it is found that achievement motivation plays a partial mediating role between parenting style and work values,namely,parenting style can not only directly affect the work values,but also through achievement motivation to affect work values.This study is helpful for parents to use more positive parenting style to guide their children to fully understand their own and clear their own employment trends,in order to achieve a more rational and successful employment.Meanwhile,universities can guide students to develop a suitable achievement goal and give students a scientific work values' education,so as to make students fully understand themselves,work values and employment.
