In the field of students' academic competence research,how to improve the level of classroom engagement has been paid close attention to by the researchers.Previous studies have carried on extensive exploration on the influencing factors,mechanism of classroom engagement.The relationship between parenting style and classroom engagement is not clearly.Based on the current situation that many students lack interests in classroom activities and have low level of classroom engagement,this study chooses students from grade four to grade six in a primary school of Jinan as sample,using questionnaire survey to explore whether parenting style can affect the level of classroom engagement trough self-control,which can offers a new way to promote the students' classroom engagement.This study draws following conclusions:(1)On parenting style,primary school children have no significant difference in gender,but the difference in grade is significant.Children in fifth grade have higher score than children in fourth grade on authoritative parenting;mother authoritative of fourth-grade children is lower than sixth-grade children,but there is no significant difference in other parenting style;and children in fifth and sixth grade also have no significant difference in parenting style.(2)On the level of classroom engagement,primary school children have significant difference in gender and grade.Girls have significantly higher level of classroom engagement than boys;fifth-grade children have higher level than fourth and sixth grade;and there is no significant difference of fouth and sixth grade children on the levels of classroom engagement.(3)Authoritative parenting can directly and positively predict the level of classroom engagement and self-control;self-control can positively predict the level of classroom engagement;authoritative parenting can positively predict the level of classroom engagement through the mediation of self-control.(4)Authoritarian parenting can directly and positively predict the classroom engagement,but negatively predict self-control;therefore,authoritarian parenting can negatively predict classroom engagement through the mediation of self-control.The research above has important theoretical and practical value on improving parenting style and enhancing children's self-control and classroom engagement.
