The Study Of Prepositions In Xuan Shi Zhi

Preposition is an important category in the system of Chinese grammar,as a significant part of the functional words,it is one of the crucial ways to express the grammar meaning in Chinese.Chinese preposition is so complicated and numerous which attracted many grammarians from home and abroad probed into preposition thoroughly and meticulously.To understand the development and evolution of Chinese Preposition,the key point is fully investigating language materials based on the study on the history of Chinese Preposition,then carry out the in-depth and detailed study of prepositions.Xuanshi Zhi is supernatural tales in late Tang Dynasty,in which spoken language is remarkable,and the use of prepositions is also relatively complex,so it is considered as an important corpus for the researches of prepositions in late Tang Dynasty.Through the quantitative statistics and qualitative analysis,this paper will thoroughly describes and analyzes the prepositions of Xuanshi Zhi.This paper is divided into three parts except introduction and conclusion.The overview introduction of Xuanshi Zhi,as well as the status of the preposition researches,and the standards to identify the preposition;The first part is the semantic classification of preposition.Based on the semantic feature,the 38 prepositions in Xuanshi Zhi are described in details and were divided into six groups.The second part is the syntactic analysis of preposition.This part mainly discuss the structure of the preposition phrase,the location of the preposition and the grammatical function of preposition.Based on the previous studies,the last part is the preposition analysis from synchronic and diachronic perspectives by selecting and referring to the preposition system on different special books,such as Dunhuang Bianwen in late Tang Dynasty,Shishuo Xinyu in Wei-Jin period,and Zhuzi Yulei in the Southern Song Dynasty.This part tries to grasp the general characteristics and the development of the preposition in Xuanshi Zhi from synchronic and diachronic analysis.In the last part,the author sum up the whole thesis and give the conclusion that the evolution of preposition in Xuanshi Zhi in accordance with the developing tendency of the early modern Chinese prepositions.Generally speaking,this paper gives a research and analysis to the preposition in Xuanshi Zhi,try to explore and reveal the characters of the preposition.Based on the research,the research is hope to provide some basic and practical results for the study of modern Chinese prepositions.
