At the middle ancient times, the preposition system of Chinese language had great changes. The more complicated system of prepositions at former period began to occur a tendency for simpler and more normative. Some prepositions whose meaning and usage were repeated had died out. Some prepositions those were used regularity were retained. Some new prepositions had emerged. The usage of preposition had great changes at the same time.Shi Shuo Xin Yu is a type of literature consisting mainly of short sketches written by the Lin Chuan Prince of the Southern Dynasties Song Liu Yi Qing. This book had a lot of spoken language so that it could reflect the appearance of language at the Southern and Northern Dynasties. There were twenty-eight prepositions in Shi Shuo Xin Yu. These preposition embodied the development tendency of preposition at the middle ancient times. In this thesis, I would discuss prepositions and preposition phrases in Shi Shuo Xin Yu comprehensively under the aid of predecessors' study outcome. At the same time, I would describe how did the new prepositions form briefly and its influence for later ages. Thus I would summarize the prepositions system's characteristics at the middle ancient times and surmise the development tendency of Chinese prepositions.
