Gustav Holst is one of the most famous composers in Britain at the beginning of the 20th century and his life is full of legendary color.This paper takes musical compositions of famous composers in European countries at the turn of the 19 th century and the 20th century as well as music creations of each school at thebeginning of the 20th century as research background,takes British composer Holst as research object,takes harmony technique in his most famous music works “The Planets” as research content,tries to explore the technical characteristics of music created in the most turbulent age in music history and makes well-founded positioning for his tendency of music creation style.This paper consists of three chapters.The first chapter discusses the formation of aesthetic concept of creation of Holst as well as the historical background of its formation.It analyzes the formation of his aesthetic concept from the aspects of composers admired by Holst,experience of composers he has contacted in the same period,his life experience as a teacher in women's school as well as his life time music creations etc has seven sections,which discusses the music structure of seven movements of “The Planets” and focuses on analyzing music material and music structure.The second chapter has five sections,which discusses the application situation of Holst for semitone system technical language in “The Planets” from five aspects of application of traditional harmony language,application of new relational mode alternating skills,application of new relational chord technique,application of complex harmony thinking as well as personalized structural chords used in Holst's “The Planets”.The third chapter has two sections,which discusses the application situation of mode harmony system technique in Holst's “The Planets” from two aspects of single tone mode organizational melody and multiple tone mode comprehensive organizational melody.The conclusion part has highly summarized the analysis and research results of this paper and discussed tendency of music creation style of Holst from the genetic theory in historical perspective.
