With change of dynasty, there are always some people who did not cooperate with the new one, because they had a loyalty to the former dynasty,so they are called adherents. Qing’s adherents came after the perish of Qing dynasty, and it is a new group. Compared with the adherents of the past generations dynasties, they display its own uniqueness, because they were in the transition timing from feudal autocracy to democracy republican. Especially after The may fourth new culture movement, the traditional Confucianism lost its central position of the social value system. Their loyalty for the former dynasty was no longer admired around the world, but looked backward. In different historical period, depicting’s focus of the image of the-Qing dynasty is also different. The May 4th new culture movement’s fierce anti-traditional set the tone of the writing way of adherents of Qing dynasty in Chinese modern and contemporary novels. But it also presents different characteristics in before and after:when it gets closer to the climax of the may fourth period, the trace of anti-traditional is more obvious. The image of Qing’s adherents were basically shaped into the target which was for the intellectuals to criticize. When it came to 1940’s, the trend of anti-tradition wanes as a result of the national crisis deepened. In contrast, the high quality components of traditional cultures got more attention which reflected in the novels appeared the more full image of Qing’s adherents, and it changed with the times. From the founding of the state to the new period, the image of the adherents of Qing dynasty in the novel is absent for political reasons. The image of the adherents of Qing dynasty has become less and less politically constrained from the 1980s to the new age. When it came to the new period writers have been able to escape the mode of political criticism and described the lives of the people as ordinary individuals, from the perspective of the nation, the family, and the individual.Image of the adherent of Qing dynasty in Chinese modern and contemporary novels are mainly divided into two types : stickers to the traditional adherent’s image and eight banners after the Revolution of 1911. The nostalgia for the old age was pitiful and pathetic.Their conservative political and cultural tendencies are in reverse of the tide of The Times.but they have a profound cultural implication as individuals.Their adherence to the traditional culture is a continuation of the traditional culture in the surge anti-traditional tides of the May 4th movement.at the same time, there is also a counterpoint to the radical May 4th.Manchu adherents were sidelined for the ruling policy of inequality in Qing’s dynasty in the early period of the republic of China.Their life in the new society was becoming harder and harder for their despise to survival skills in former days.It was vividly presented in novels. They provides us a new perspective to study the national concept in the early of the republic of China.Through the sufferings of the image of the adherents of Eight banners in the novels It can be seen that the revolutionaries held the microscopic national concep which was different from Liang qichao and other reformists. Although the revolutionaries made some adjustments after the revolution.it partly reflected the lack of maturity of the 1911 revolution.
