E-sports News Translation From The Perspective Of German Functional Translation Theory

In recent years,as the World Cyber Arena(WCA)and other major e-sport events successfully held in China,China's e-sports has made great developments which could be reflected from the rising enthusiasm on e-sports.Therefore,In order to meet the demands of various kinds of audiences and their callings for the information of international e-sports events,the researches of e-sports news translation have been attached great challenges and increasing importance to.E-sports plays a crucial role in the cultural exchanges in breaking the language and cultural barriers by its accomplishments in its communication functions.Basing on the theory of functionalist translation,this paper expounds the text types and functions of e-sports news,and discusses its translation strategies.Through the comprehensive analysis of e-sports news examples,it draws conclusions as following.First,the translation of e-sports news text should consider the writing background of the writer,the intention of the writer and expectation of the target audiences.Appropriate translation strategies should be adopted according to the types of text and the translation purposes.Secondly,the translator should enrich their knowledge,terms and cultural background to fulfill cultural exchange targets.This paper consists of three parts: introduction,main body and conclusion.The introduction summarizes the research purpose and meaning of this dissertation the main body consists three chapters:The first chapter is the theoretical basis of this paper: some basic concepts and the relative researches at home and abroad,including the formation of functionalist translation theory,and the e-sports news translation,related researches on e-sports.The second chapter is the analysis of e-sports news based on functionalist translation theory.This chapter divides the text into three kinds of texts,namely,informational text,expressive text and operational text.According to Nord 's analysis theory,this paper also analyzes the characteristics of Chinese e-sports news and English e-sports news by studying their metaphorical features,popular language,colloquial title,rhetorical questions,hypertext structures.On the other hand,this paper focuses on the text features of English e-sports news especially the external factors and cultural factors.The third chapter is the case analysis.Under the guidance of German functionalist translation theory,This paper analyzes the characteristics of e-sports news from many aspects,namely the text producer,the intention of text sender,the expectation and the scope of recipient or audiences.Then discusses some strategies of e-sports news translation.The last part of this paper is the conclusion,which is the review of this paper.Basing on the perspective of functionalist translation theory,this paper analyzes the characteristics of e-sports news and its translation strategies.This paper aims to enrich the translation theory and provide some dates for the practice of e-sports translation,so as to enhance the exchange of international culture through e-sports.
