This dissertation attempts to via image records of Han Dynasty stone inscriptions which include stele,stone Que,stone engraved with characters or designs and stone relief in Qian-Jia period in the Qing Dynasty as well as Jinshi Tu written by Niu Yunzhen and Chu Jun,Jinshi Suo written by Feng Yunpeng and Feng Yunyuan,to discover how the ancient people reproduce,preserve and disseminate stone materials before the invention of photography.Rubbing is an important form for reproducing ancient stone materials,but it can not be used for publishing books because of its huge size.We need technology and transformation if we want to use the rubbings of stone materials to make books which with textual research.With the development of epigraphy,the style of book publishing have been changed,the miniature turned into the way of the stone record and the new book style which with illustrated is gradually accepted by people.In addition,the miniature used in Qianlong and Jiaqing period is not only reflected in Jinshi Tu and Jinshi Suo,but also in other aspects,such as Bai Han Bei Yan created by Wan Chengji and miniature stele by Qian Yong.However,in the use of the miniature,people find its two sides: advantages and disadvantages.But,it is undeniable that the new style of the book which is made of the miniature is really a big progress at that time.
