Modern Chinese-style Stacking Expression Research

Approximate quantity has a frequent use in contemporary Chinese language,but the study about it is still scattered,and most researches only focus on the "single form" on propositional representation level. This dissertation focuses on the "complex form" of approximate quantity. Firstly,we analyze each internal part of the "complex form" from propositional representation and epistemic modality aspects. Then,based on the classification of single approximate quantity,we have a research on "complex form",for clarifying complex form's internal parts and concluding its pragmatics functions. The whole paper has 5 sections:Section 1 summarizes the main achievements of the current study, and also points out some problems. Section 2 analyses the types of single form in the "complex form",we divide these single forms into two parts, one is on propositional representation level and the other is on epistemic modality level; Section 3 discusses the types of the "complex form", we divide the types into two directions: the one with some single forms on propositional representation level, and the other one with one propositional representation form used together with one epistemic modality single form; Section 4 compares each approximate quantity's fuzzy degree on propositional representation level, and analyses the relationship between form's fuzzy degree and the possibility they could be used in realistic language; Section 5 explains speakers' intention with the help of "stretch cognition" theory,and discusses how people show their cooperative or uncooperative intention by choosing these complex forms.
